Who Can Use the Online Service?
The Department of Examinations states that the online certificate service covers G.C.E. O/L examinations held in 2001 and afterwards. If you sat the examination in 2001 or later, the portal is the place to begin.
If you sat the examination before 2001, this service is not the route described by the Department. Check the Department's website for the procedure that applies to earlier examinations.

Editor's guidance (general advice, not part of the notice)
The points below are general guidance by GovInfo.lk, not part of the official notice.
- Before you start: find your index number and examination year first. Having them to hand avoids restarting the form.
- Check your entries: compare each detail you type with your identification and any old examination documents before you submit or pay.
- Know why you need it: the receiving employer, university or authority may have its own requirements. Ask them what type of certificate they accept before you choose.
- For use abroad: ask the receiving institution or authority whether authentication or attestation is required, and when it must be done.
- Keep records: save the reference number and payment confirmation (a screenshot is enough) until you have the certificate in hand.
- Plan ahead: the source does not state how long processing takes. If you need the certificate by a deadline, start early and confirm timing with the Department.
PDF, Printed Copy or Overseas Use?
Whether you receive a downloadable file, a printed certificate or another format depends on the service and certificate type you select on the portal. Read the delivery and collection details shown there before you pay.
If the certificate is for another country, the receiving institution decides whether it needs further authentication or attestation. The Department's online service description does not settle that question for you.
