OUSL Master of Teacher Education (MTE) 2026/27: Who Can Apply, Admission Rules and How to Apply Online
The Open University of Sri Lanka has called applications for its Master of Teacher Education (MTE) programme for 2026/27. It is not open to every teacher: you need an education degree (or an equivalent) and you must be a permanent employee in one of seven named posts, such as teacher educator, teacher training college lecturer, principal, in-service advisor or education administrative service officer. Who Can Apply: Two Conditions You Must Both Meet
1. A qualifying degree (any one of these)
- A Bachelor's degree in Education from a recognised university.
- A Bachelor's degree and the Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognised university.
- Any equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate (the University's governing academic body).
2. Your job (you must be serving in one of these)
- An academic staff member of a recognised university
- An officer in the Sri Lanka Teacher Educators' Service
- A lecturer at a teacher training college
- The principal of a government or government-approved school (private or international), holding a Principal Grade
- An officer engaged in teacher education at the National Institute of Education
- An In-Service Advisor at a teacher centre, the Ministry of Education or a provincial Ministry of Education
- An officer in the Educational Administrative Service
Other conditions
- You must have a good command of English, whatever medium you study in.
- You must be appointed as a permanent employee in your post.
- Applicants are selected by a written test or an interview.

How to Apply, Step by Step
- Check both conditions above: your degree and your post.
- Open the OUSL online application page, apply.lmsousl.lk. The advertisement says applications are online only and are issued from 1 November 2026.
- Complete the application and pay the Rs. 1,000 application fee online with a debit or credit card. You can also pay in cash at any OUSL Regional or Study Centre.
- Submit before 20 November 2026.
- Prepare for the written test or interview, and keep your documents ready.
